About

In a lot of situations, right and wrong aren’t black and white - and in these grey areas, we often turn to the law to work out how to achieve a fair outcome.

In this Sprint, we’re doing just that. When someone uploads a picture of your client to a social network without their permission and it leads to them losing their job, they’ve certainly lost out - but are they a victim of illegal activity? You’ll investigate the laws, acts and policies behind privacy and employment law before advising your client on their next steps.

She leads on, champions and supports a wide range of diversity related initiatives and projects. This is done as voluntary work across a number of strands such as gender, ethnicity and social background. Sally regularly speaks and spearheads change on these important issues at various forums and conferences including at the House of Lords.

Career path
About the profession

This role is one you’ll see in various law firms, chambers, private and public sector, and not-for-profit organisations. It’s the job of the paralegal to carry out legal tasks such as research, providing some legal advice, and preparing legal documents for barristers or solicitors. As a paralegal, you'll play an important role within a legal team and your tasks will often mirror the work of a trainee, or at times, a recently qualified solicitor. The position is sometimes used as preparation for qualifying as a solicitor, and as a paralegal you’ll be trained in subsidiary legal matters.

About the industry

Law is a vast and complex field with diverse career options, attractive salaries and international opportunities. It’s difficult to get bored as a lawyer - legislation is constantly evolving, creating fresh challenges and, subsequently, new rewards. Each case is unique, and you’ll need to use all of your skills to achieve the best possible outcomes for your clients. It’s also a profession with a strong set of core values that you’ll be expected to follow - specifically, you’ll need to reject injustice, insist on equality, respect the integrity and dignity of others, and be able to show compassion and forgiveness.
